Hotlinking, How I Loath Thee

A couple sites, which shall remain nameless, have been leeching bandwidth and images off my site. At first I did not really care. I have so much bandwidth alloted to me that there is no way I can see that will ever reach the limit. Then, I figured I would look to see how they are using them. A couple were fine, they gave credit, so whatever. Then I saw one that was downright blatant thievery. Seriously. One even had a nice little download link on their site that would redirect to my files once they clicked it.

I was thinking about just blocking the site, but in order to do that I found I would need to block all sites, and then add sites individually to allow them to hotlink. Needless to say, that would be more trouble than it would be worth. Rather than doing that, or being an ass and replacing the files with "shock" content, I made it so other sites could not seamlessly leech. Users will know where you get your content from. Perhaps I should have put some "shock" content in place of it, afterall, you gotta learn one of these days to not trust to put content that is out of your control on your sites. Just be glad I am nice.
