Some Updates

Some updates in the last week:

Cybernations Calculator: I've added the ability to use the source code of the nation summary page to be used in the copy/paste field to automatically fill in the form. This should work without any problems in any web browser, and as such, is the recommended way to use that feature now. It is still possible to do it the old way (copying from the what the web browser displays) if preferred with any web browser, but if you're not using Firefox, you'll end up having to fill out the resources manually at the very least.

Zaishen Quest Tracker: Added a RSS feed for the page for those that are RSS-inclined.

For the first time since I had to "upgrade to the new version or die" with the forum software I use a year or more ago, I have finally gotten the main site to generate completely valid XHTML 1.X. As a result, markup validation links now populate the very bottom of each page again. The only exception to this is the Cybernations Calculator, but then again, I do not think the markup on that page has ever passed with 100%.

I have also fixed a small bug with the Zaishen Quest Tracker, so now it should be displaying the correct quests on the right days once again.

In the "News" forum, only replies to threads can be made. The "General" one is where new threads can be made. I should probably just hide the News section from being in the forums list because of that; although that's another matter.

As far as the rest goes, I know exactly what you're doing, I just have to explain the why you're getting what you're getting, since it's not actually a bug or anything. What the calculator does is use the "current" information as a base when calculating the "future" information, and only in that way. That is also why the future side doesn't have as many fields to fill out, since it only calculates changes one way.

With that mind, when you added improvements/resources to your current side to match your future side without changing anything else, the calculator had a new base to work from. From the looks of your numbers, it had no changes to calculate between current and future side, since the improvements/resources on one side matched the ones on the future side.

Now, if you wanted to compare two future scenarios, which seems to be what you wanted to do, you could do one of a few things:
1. If your browser has multiple tabs or windows as needed, use them to calculate different future scenarios to easily compare them.
2. Use the back button and/or forward buttons on your browser to browse through previous calculations.
3. Copy/paste numbers you want to compare into notepad or some other text editor.
4. You could also write down the numbers you want to compare as you suggested if you had to.

There might be more, but those are just things I've done to work around the limitation of the calculator being able to only calculate one future instance at a time.

I hope something in this clarified it for you. I know I'm terrible at explaining things, so if anything didn't make sense just let me know and I'll try to clarify. Or maybe I was just so terribly off the mark on understanding what you were asking, let me know in that case as well.

Hi I'm not 100% sure how to replicate this bug.. but..:

1. I copy paste my info into the handy box
2. Edit the missing fields, nuclear pos. aircraft level, etc.
3. Change my future nation to include a different resource, replace fish with gems
4. Calculate an extra 1000 infra purchase
5. To the future design, add the improvements I can now purchase with my extra population eg: 5 statium, 5 banks 5 police etc.
6. calculate to update it.

7. Hope to compare this future income to my Original with the different resources, so add the same improvements, to the orginial and

The underline numbers dont update, infact the second reverts to the original setup level :/ This isnt a big bug, it just means I have to write stuff down/copy and paste to compare 2 future setups, which is more of an annoyance :/ Esp as the "Original setup" +1000 infra has no meaning, why would i want to see stats of my nation without the improvements, which I'm going to buy as soon as I can. Pretty sure this didnt happen last time I came on this site, the only thing I'm doing different now is; I have replaced a trade resource, so maybe this is causing the error?

Anyway i doubt you'll get round to fixing this, as you sound like RL is taking over again :) But thanks for a great tool, and if you do find an hour to try and sort this, it'd mean alot to a CN newbie whos uses this site almost everyday.

Guild Wars Combat Tracker Back Online

I've been a little reluctant to do this, but since two potential update days have passed since the latest cycle went full circle and they haven't bothered to change it, I'm putting the tracker back up. At least this time it's a minimum of a week until the next potential update, so the tracker should be valid for a little longer than the last time I put it up.

Added Tracker For Guild Wars Combat Quests

I think the title really says it all. I created something to automatically keep track of daily combat quests in Guild Wars so I don't have to count backwards on a static list every time I want to find out when a certain one is coming up. Might be useful to others, so I've made it available here.

Edit: The cycle changed as of the 2009.06.11 update, so I removed the tracker.

Massive Update to CN Calculator

I've just uploaded what is possibly the single largest update to my Cybernations Calculator since I first made it public. Part of what spurred me to update it is that I finally figured out all the environment calculations, so I've included those. A few of the other things I've added are the rest of the wonders, military fields and upkeep, land calculations, and more. Naval fields and upkeep aren't included in it since it'd be difficult to extract individual units from just a number on the status screen. So much has changed in the calculator that despite all my troubleshooting I'm sure there are still some latent bugs in there, so let me know if you find any.

Ug, I'm still not getting emails about messages. I suppose this is what I get for upgrading the forum, which also broke my previous template, which is why it's out of place from the rest of the site. [/rant] Oh well, I should get them now if I did it right.

No. At one time I was, but that's when I was thinking about quitting and when the source code was more elegant. Now, with some of the newer wonders especially, I've had to hack it up a bit. Besides, all the information is pretty much available on the information index in game or the CN forums themselves.

That's just a little odd. I might expect this from a more complicated wonder, like Great University, but not this one. Perhaps you had other things that were changing?

Honestly, part of the reason is laziness. I'd have to add 2-3 more fields for land, which by itself isn't bad. Then another part of the reason is I also want to squeeze military stuff in there eventually, so that's another bunch of fields. I'm kind of afraid of making it too big for its own good. Maybe I should just do one thing at a time?

Oh, and about the citizen income coming up short in the calculations, I have yet to look into that... cursed laziness.

Any plans to open up the source of this? I would love to develop on top of this (linking back to you on any page I may use it on) for an internal program I am coding for my alliance. I would love to backshare any code I make, as I plan on releasing the system I create to everyone as well.

Very strange, I just ran my MoFA's numbers through and it shows a gain of $12.46 for the Movie Industry Wonder. That would be right. I guess the hardest part of the ADP would be the land to citizen calcs.

Another question, when will you be adding the ADP Wonder to the Calculator? I really don't care much about the other missing Wonders as they are all military based and my main concern is the changes in population, income and bills. I can handle calculating differences in my military strength. Especially since the randomness of the battle odds in-game can easily negate any of these depending on your luck that day.

I have used you progam for quite some time now to assist the nations in my alliance. It is the perfect program for planning ahead. I have encountered one problem, however. When you copy/paste the nation's summary page, the Citizen Income that appears in the Current Setup area is correct but, it is different in the Calculations and Modifiers area. Example:

That is a difference of $3.18. I have noticed this with all the nations that I have been helping, there is always a difference with the one in the Calc area being lower. I have tried it using both IE7 and Firefox2. I have tried manually entering the data but, there is no change. Is there something that I am doing wrong or is this a glitch in the programing? I know this is only a small thing but, it causes problems when trying to determine current and future income. If there is something I am doing to cause this, please let me know.

I have said before that the only foreseeable way I would shut down the Jedi Academy server is if I stopped playing the game, and I have not played it at all in so long that it should be no surprise when I say that I am no longer going to run the server. I do not even have the will to run the game to play on the server one last time; that is about how disinterested I have become in Jedi Academy. I have no idea when the server will finally go down, but it will definitely be in less than a month, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Cyber Nations Calculator

I wanted to do more to the calculator I made for Cyber Nations before I put it out to the general public, but I just cannot get around to doing what I want to finish it. It still works fine, but isn't too user friendly right now.

It's a decent web-based comparative calculator that you can see the difference between what you have now, and what you might think of changing your set up to and such. I'm not going to go into too much detail about it here, as I'm sure most can figure most of it out. The only thing that may be annoying is manually entering the data, which was in the works to rectify, but like I said I haven't been able to finish it.

Jedi Academy Server Explodes

New Servers

Pretty much everything I have online is hosted on different servers now. This site is now hosted with someone else, and my Jedi Academy server is now back to its old IP.

I had been looking for a different host for the site for some time now. Since my next payment for the old host was about to be due, I switched to a different host that's been around just as long as the old one, and offered much more for less cost. This move was obvious.

As for the Jedi Academy server switching, that came as a delightful surprise. I got an email yesterday saying that they were switching their servers around and to sum it up, the server is back on the old IP. Ever since they moved me from it certain applications wouldn't recognize the new IP, so it's kind of nice to have working toys again. The new/old IP is 69.93.11.107, and I have ja.c2t.us pointing to it already, though it might take a day or so to propagate.

Image Gallery Thumbnails

What's an image gallery without thumbnails? Well, just a directory browser, which is what my image gallery was until I just now added thumbnails to it. It only took me almost a year to get around to doing it, so enjoy.

Removed Rant

Well, I posted a rather long rant yesterday about my Reflected Wave program, and how I believe I was robbed of a guaranteed 'A' in my programming class because of it. I put my anger and frustration to good use and changed the site around a little bit, and after cooling down I just removed the rant.

I still think I was robbed though.
