Some Updates (no replies)

Some updates in the last week:

Cybernations Calculator: I've added the ability to use the source code of the nation summary page to be used in the copy/paste field to automatically fill in the form. This should work without any problems in any web browser, and as such, is the recommended way to use that feature now. It is still possible to do it the old way (copying from the what the web browser displays) if preferred with any web browser, but if you're not using Firefox, you'll end up having to fill out the resources manually at the very least.

Zaishen Quest Tracker: Added a RSS feed for the page for those that are RSS-inclined.

Maintenance, Mostly (no replies)

For the first time since I had to "upgrade to the new version or die" with the forum software I use a year or more ago, I have finally gotten the main site to generate completely valid XHTML 1.X. As a result, markup validation links now populate the very bottom of each page again. The only exception to this is the Cybernations Calculator, but then again, I do not think the markup on that page has ever passed with 100%.

I have also fixed a small bug with the Zaishen Quest Tracker, so now it should be displaying the correct quests on the right days once again.

At least this time it's a minimum of a week until the next potential update, so the tracker should be valid for a little longer than the last time I put it up.

Link: Guild Wars Zaishen Quest Tracker

Added Tracker For Guild Wars Combat Quests (no replies)

I think the title really says it all. I created something to automatically keep track of daily combat quests in Guild Wars so I don't have to count backwards on a static list every time I want to find out when a certain one is coming up. Might be useful to others, so I've made it available here.

Edit: The cycle changed as of the 2009.06.11 update, so I removed the tracker.

Cybernations Calculator Information (26 replies)

Please use this thread for any questions, comments, concerns, et al you may have about the Cybernations Calculator. Some detailed information about the calculator is below.

=====================
Description
=====================
A web-based comparative calculator for Cybernations that you can see the difference between what you have now and what you might think of changing your set up to.

=====================
Known Missing Calculations
=====================

[*] Navy: All
[*] Literacy: I know it's purely tech based and have some 500+ data plots of it, I just cannot seem to find the formula.
[*] Environment: Above 50% Literacy there is a -1 Environment change. Since I don't have the literacy formula, I can't really account for this change.
[*] Mars and Moon: wonders and resources.
[*] There is a part of the Happiness equation that I do not know, so any calculated changes to happiness will be slightly skewed, but not by more than 1% in the very worst case. The less the change, the less the skewing.

=====================
Notes on Usage
=====================

[*] When using the copy/paste feature, it is recommended to copy from the source code of the nation summary page, instead of the old way of copying from the page you see. If you do not, and are not using Firefox, you will have to manually fill in the resources.
[*] While you can copy/paste the summary page of any nation, a few things will be missing:

[*] If using your own nation:

[*] Events
[*] Nuclear Position -- unless you own nukes
[*] 90% Literacy -- unless tech over 700
[*] Aircraft Levels -- if tech over 500, sets to 9
[*] If using another nation, all the above will be missing, as will:

[*] Tax Rate
[*] Environment
[*] Global Radiation
[*] Happiness
[*] Citizen Income

[*] Events: These serve a dual purpose. You can put actual events that are affecting your nation as implied. You can also put factors that are that are not directly included on the face of the calculator if you need to, such as trade bonuses.
[*] Environment: When adding environment to a perfect environment (Global Radiation+1), such as when removing Border Walls, the calculator will add the full environment effect, even if your nation doesn't change from the perfect environment in game. If you know this will happen, you can counteract it by using the "Event Environment" field on the future side by as much as you need.
[*] Government: Anarchy: Does not mean you're in the state of anarchy, just that your government selected is Anarchy. The state of anarchy and the government of Anarchy are two different things. I will probably add actual selectable anarchy effects later.
[*] Happiness: There is part of this equation that I do not know, thus any happiness calculated will be slightly skewed. Since happiness directly affects income, if you lose happiness your future income will be slightly overestimated, but if you gain happiness your future income will be slightly underestimated.
[*] Nation Strength: All calculations are done assuming no units are deployed.
[*] Citizen Income: If your citizens currently make exactly $10.00, it is very likely that any positive changes you make to the future side will not be calculated as they would be in game. This is because the game sets $10.00 to be the minimum they can possibly make, even if they actually make less.

=====================
Partial Changelog
=====================

2010.04.07
- FEAT It is now possible to copy/paste the source code of the nation summary page to fill out the form.

2009.12.02
- FIX Mining Industry Consortium and National Environment Office calculations.

2009.08.31
- FEAT Can now copy/paste another nation's status screen to fill in the calculator fields

2009.03.24
- ADD Military
- ADD ADP and all military Wonders
- ADD Environment calculations
- ADD Nation Strength calculations
- ADD Land Area calculations
- ADD Soldiers affecting income notification
- FIX Sugar and Wheat no longer affect Land Area
- FIX Lead halves Nuke effect on Environment

2008.08.15
- ADD Numbers for 15k+ infra

2008.07.24
- ADD 4 new improvements concerning Navy
- ADD Mining Industry Consortium wonder
- TODO Land equations
- TODO At least 2 other wonders

2008.05.19
- Added Environment level indicator
- Changed a few governments to reflect in-game changes.

2008.05.15
- Added 4 wonders that were added a few months ago.
- Added Global Radiation Level field
- Fixed bug with Nuclear Position field
- TODO numbers for 15k+ infra

2008.05.07
- Added copy/paste field.

2008.03.11
- Changed Affluent Population and Fine Jewelry to reflect in-game changes.
- TODO 4 new wonders.

2007.10.30
- Changed all governments to reflect in-game changes.

2007.10.20
- Readded improvement/wonder cost

2007.08.05
- Added Environment field for more accuracy

2007.07.29
- Updated infra upkeep for all infrastructure levels over 5000
- Fixed bug with Intelligence Agencies

2007.06.27
- Fixed typo on Infra Upkeep calculations
- Fixed bug involving future Tech not applying to Infra Upkeep

2007.06.25
- First public version

2007.06.16
- Complete overhaul of previous calculator from the ground up

Massive Update to CN Calculator (2 replies)

I've just uploaded what is possibly the single largest update to my Cybernations Calculator since I first made it public. Part of what spurred me to update it is that I finally figured out all the environment calculations, so I've included those. A few of the other things I've added are the rest of the wonders, military fields and upkeep, land calculations, and more. Naval fields and upkeep aren't included in it since it'd be difficult to extract individual units from just a number on the status screen. So much has changed in the calculator that despite all my troubleshooting I'm sure there are still some latent bugs in there, so let me know if you find any.

Jedi Academy Server Going Down (1 reply)

I have said before that the only foreseeable way I would shut down the Jedi Academy server is if I stopped playing the game, and I have not played it at all in so long that it should be no surprise when I say that I am no longer going to run the server. I do not even have the will to run the game to play on the server one last time; that is about how disinterested I have become in Jedi Academy. I have no idea when the server will finally go down, but it will definitely be in less than a month, so enjoy it while it lasts.

I'm not going to go into too much detail about it here, as I'm sure most can figure most of it out.
New Servers (no replies)

Pretty much everything I have online is hosted on different servers now. This site is now hosted with someone else, and my Jedi Academy server is now back to its old IP.

I had been looking for a different host for the site for some time now. Since my next payment for the old host was about to be due, I switched to a different host that's been around just as long as the old one, and offered much more for less cost. This move was obvious.

As for the Jedi Academy server switching, that came as a delightful surprise. I got an email yesterday saying that they were switching their servers around and to sum it up, the server is back on the old IP. Ever since they moved me from it certain applications wouldn't recognize the new IP, so it's kind of nice to have working toys again. The new/old IP is 69.93.11.107, and I have ja.c2t.us pointing to it already, though it might take a day or so to propagate.

Jedi Academy Server Change (5 replies)

I haven't been playing Jedi Academy much lately. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've touched it for nearly two months, mostly due to homework. Well, I'm on spring break, and I figure I'd go ahead and jump on my server and duel some people. I quickly find that it's down. I check a friend's server that using the same service to see if they're down too, but they're not. So, I go see just how long it might have been down using ServerSpy. It basically says the last time someone was on it was February 28. That's almost a full week it's been down. They did just change over to a new system, so I kind of gave them some leeway when the server was intermittently down for a week or so. But for a whole week after they seemly have fully switched over the their new system?

Of course with their new system, I didn't have an account anymore so I couldn't make a support ticket, so I sent the host an email saying the server has been down a week. The turn-around for the reply was under 2.5 hours, so it wasn't too bad. They set up an account on their new system, set up the server, and refunded me my last month's payment. I don't think it's too bad, considering I haven't really been using it lately, but I'm sure if I was playing it everyday like I used to I would have caught it much earlier. Oh well, a free month isn't all that bad.

I never wanted an IP change, but I guess it'll have to be that way. The new server IP for the Jedi Academy server is 74.52.117.180:29070. I already set up some DNS for it, so it can also be reached at ja.c2t.us:29070.

New Forums, Site Design, etc (2 replies)

So, I got my new forum up. It only took several months, but I finally got around to it. It might find some use I suppose. Who knows? I switched completely from using phpbb as the backend I was using for this news page to the new forum, so I can say adios to phpbb for good. I will not miss it at all.

Some may notice the site design almost matches the one I did for Clan YV. Well, you would be right, because I basically just copy/pasted it. It just is infinitely easier to use a template I had already done and modify it, than to start from scratch. I haven't really modified it much, and I only really changed the inner-workings of the site to match it for now.

Oh, and one day I'll get around to making the image gallery thing pretty, with thumbnails and all. One day...

If there's any problems you encounter on the site, or have any comments/questions/etc, just post it to the forum. Unlike the phpbb I was using before, this forum has a RSS feed, so I'll know if you post even if I don't check the site for weeks or even months like I normally do. Thanks, and enjoy.
